George Kazanas, Ed.D.
George Kazanas is Midway ISD’s eighth superintendent. He became superintendent of Midway June 1, 2012, after serving for three years as superintendent of Wichita Falls ISD and a decade at China Spring ISD. He also served in China Spring as an assistant superintendent, principal, and assistant principal.
Dr. Kazanas is a graduate of West High School and began his career teaching business-education courses in West ISD.
His higher education experience includes a bachelor’s degree in business administration with teacher certification from Baylor University, a master’s degree in educational administration from Baylor, and a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies from Tarleton State University.
Dr. Kazanas’ professional affiliations include serving on the Board of Directors for the Texas Association of Suburban and Mid-Urban Schools, Executive Committee member of the Texas Association of School Administrators, former Board of Directors member of the Waco Business League, co-chair of the Education Steering Committee for Prosper Waco, chair of Region 8 UIL Music Executive Committee, and Steering Committee member on the State Board of Education’s Long-Range Plan for Public Education.
His local community activities have included serving as a board member on the Greater Waco and Hewitt chambers of commerce, the China Spring ISD Education Foundation, and now the Midway ISD Education Foundation.
He and his wife, Kim, are also officers of the West Waco Neighborhood Association. They have two sons. Jonathan, 24, is a graduate of Texas Tech University and is a project engineer for a Waco-based construction company. Christopher, 21, is a junior construction science student at Texas A&M University, a member of the Aggie Corps of Cadets, and chaplain of his unit, and a sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves stationed at Fort Hood. Kim is executive director of the Waco Business
League, a position she has held for four years.
