Andrea Barefield

Andrea Jackson Barefield was elected to the Waco City Council to represent District I on May 5, 2018
and sworn in on May 15, 2018. Andrea is the Executive Director of the Texas Brazos Trail Region – part
of the Texas Heritage Trails Program. Before joining the Texas Brazos Trail Region, Andrea was the Main
Street Manager for City Center Waco. There, she was able to develop, cultivate and grow a sense of
community in Downtown Waco through historic preservation, economic development, and
place making.
Prior to returning to Waco in 2015, Andrea created and launched Stage Presence Performing Arts
Studio. Stage Presence was Houston’s home of the Debbie Allen Dance Institute. There, she was fueled
by the transformation she witnessed when young, under‐served students got to train and perform with
world‐renowned artists.
She serves on the Waco ISD Foundation Board, Creative Waco Cultural Arts Task Force, NAACP Executive
Committee as 2nd Vice President and Economic Engagement Chair, Waco Civic Theatre Board, Greater
Waco Chamber of Commerce Economic Development subcommittee, Texas Downtown Association and
the Community Visioning Board.
Andrea has a Public Relations degree from Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, Texas, where she
met husband Elijah, and they have been happily married for 15 years. They have two beautiful sons,
Drew and Jaxon. They are active members of Toliver Chapel Baptist Church. She is a proud member of
the Waco Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
