Director of Workforce Initiatives

The Director of Workforce Initiatives, under the direction of the Senior Director of Data and Research and Prosper Waco leadership, supports and coordinates projects within the UpSkill Waco Initiative and other collaborative efforts to strengthen the local workforce by increased training and education. The Director of Workforce Initiatives will be responsible for managing critical and time-sensitive tasks, promoting the UpSkill Waco initiatives at community events, building and maintaining relationships between Prosper Waco partners and constituencies, and engaging directly with participants to ensure interested individuals are connected to appropriate educational pathways.

Position Summary:

The Director of Workforce Initiatives, under the direction of the Senior Director of Data and Research and Prosper Waco leadership, supports and coordinates projects within the UpSkill Waco Initiative and other collaborative efforts to strengthen the local workforce by increased training and education. The Director of Workforce Initiatives will be responsible for managing critical and time-sensitive tasks, promoting the UpSkill Waco initiatives at community events, building and maintaining relationships between Prosper Waco partners and constituencies, and engaging directly with participants to ensure interested individuals are connected to appropriate educational pathways.​

Key Responsibilities:

Program Coordination:

  • Facilitate meetings with necessary community partners and coalitions to advance the work of the UpSkill Waco initiative.

  • Promote the UpSkill Waco initiative and recruit participants at community events.

  • Work with Prosper Waco staff to analyze and communicate program efficiency and effectiveness to key stakeholders.

  • Work with Prosper Waco staff and key stakeholders to develop community-wide messaging regarding short-term workforce training opportunities.

  • Promote equity and access for all McLennan County students in improving the college, career, and workforce pipeline.

  • Facilitate workforce development efforts of Prosper Waco with staff and other community partners.

  • Work with other Prosper Waco staff to seek and develop additional funding streams to sustain the UpSkill Waco Initiative.

  • Alongside community partners, develop a city-wide strategy for re-engaging underemployed and disconnected community members.

  • Participate in UpSkill Waco coalition efforts to coordinate training logistics with higher education partners to ensure efficient and effective delivery of workforce training courses.

  • Stay informed on the workforce engagement efforts of other communities, revising best practices where appropriate and learning from other similar initiatives.

Participant Engagement:

  • Develop and maintain efficient referral processes with community and government organizations seeking to refer participants to UpSkill Waco training.

  • Collect data from UpSkill Waco partners to input and track program outcomes and impact.

  • Receive and screen incoming calls, answer general questions pertaining to services and programs offered through Upskill Waco.

  • Collect UpSkill Waco application and enrollment data and share with appropriate partners.

  • Manage UpSkill Waco application and enrollment processes to ensure applications are processed and applicants are screened and connected to higher ed partners in a timely manner.

  • Maintain confidential participant records, files, and mailing lists.

Qualifications:

  • A graduate with at least a bachelor's degree in a related or applicable field.

  • Two years of professional work experience in an office setting.

  • Knowledge of and interest in the Waco community.

  • Exemplary character and integrity with commitment to the mission of Prosper Waco and the betterment of Waco’s historically marginalized communities.

  • Excellent customer service in dealing with diverse populations.

  • Maintain discretion when dealing with confidential information.

  • Strong relational, planning, and organizational skills.

  • Taking the initiative to push the work forward in accordance with the will of program stakeholders and community partners.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.

  • Ability to build and maintain partner relationships.

  • Ability to work independently or as a team member and meet deadlines.

  • Exceptional verbal/written communication and public speaking skills.

  • Exceptional networking and engagement abilities.

  • Knowledge of current office technology (Microsoft Office, internet, databases, etc.) word processing proficiency, and ability to learn new technology quickly.

Preferred Skills:

  • Master's Degree in a related field.

  • Fluent in Spanish.

  • Three to five years' experience in working or leading in the education or workforce development field, preferred.

  • Familiarity with Salesforce and/or project management software.
