“Collective impact” can be a hard concept to wrap your head around. Leaders of StriveTogether, a collective impact initiative based in Cincinnati, Ohio, put 18 months of work into providing a clear definition.
There are four basic principles that underlie collective impact. They are to build a culture of continuous improvement by using data effectively, eliminate disparities by closing the opportunity gap, leverage existing assets by improving the current system and engage local expertise and community voice. By challenging ourselves to reach higher standards in collective impact, we are not only proving the power of the concept, but measurably improving the lives of the people we hope to help.
